At the Shapiro’s deli on South Meridian. They have a heck of a cake counter. The guys made me a brisket Reuben that I couldn’t finish, but I did bring a piece of their cherry cheesecake with me for later.
Saw this IPD officer pushing this car down the street to the gas station. At first, I wondered if it was just the slowest pursuit in history, but nope. He was giving him a push on his bumper.

What, no Tiramisu?

I’ll take the Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate please.
Also, I’ll wait for AAA rather than have a cop scratch up my bumper.

You don’t have to tell me thrice

Key lime pie for me!

I can’t even make a choice, they all look fantastic.

One from each shelf, right?
Oreo cheesecake, Key lime pie, chocolate chocolate chocolate (peanut butter cake and chocolate cream pie are also tempting)
Damn it, just ate, hungry again.

No, but there were creme brûlée bars in the next case over.

In case you hadn’t noticed.

Wow, I’ve been to this place on one of my many visits to Indy. I am obsessed with the lemon poppy cake w sour cream icing. I still tell people to ths day how the sandwiches are bigger than anything you’ll get at a J ewish Deli anywhere outside of Manhattan. Man you’ ve got me daydreaming about being in Indianapolis in the middle of winter... that takes some doing!
There used to be a City Market that was vibrant decades ago, is that back in business?
![]() 01/02/2020 at 14:22 |

Yes, I think that is it works.

Knowing this place, I’ve no doubt they all are.

That was my second thought, right after WTF.
![]() 01/02/2020 at 14:26 |

Cherry cheesecake would be the only correct choice.
![]() 01/02/2020 at 14:27 |

This would be the only correct second choice behind cherry cheesecake.

Cherry cheesecake, hands down. When someone offers me a birthday cake, that is my cake of choice, even if it is a bit unconventional. And none of that light, fluffy cheesecake - it has to be the seriously dense NY style, preferably with a nice crunchy graham cracker crust. I think I shall try to seek out a piece next Wednesday...

It’s a Caliber, it probably increased its value.

Key lime for me.

I feel like driving up there now and nom-ing a lotta cake

Black forest cake :)

The guys whipped a brisket Reuben for me that I swear had half a cow in it. They’re expensive but worth it. I hadn’t been back for at least 25 years, but the place feels the same.
I don’t know if the city market is still a thing. I hope so. I think it was down the street from market square arena when I lived here? But now the arena is gone. I don’t know the downtown landscape anymore.

Agreed. I have a slice with me that will get my attention when I can eat again.

That’s what this is, and it is amazing. It’s what comes to my mind when someone mentions Shapiro’s.
![]() 01/02/2020 at 14:57 |

And I saw it had a nice big white scuff on it from the squad car, but they made it to the gas station so mission accomplished?
![]() 01/02/2020 at 14:57 |

A solid choice.
![]() 01/02/2020 at 14:58 |

Might as well. Worth the drive.

Great with a good cup of coffee.

Ugh I can't do NY style because I always hate myself after two bites.

It’s like Chicago deep-dish pizza: yes, it’s dense AF, but take it slowly and enjoy a piece once every few years. A rare treat every now and again, but never on a regular basis.

I’ll probably be up there over the weekend

Coconut cream pie, and this place is going on The List.

These are the leftover halves of my brisket Reuben and my dad’s pastrami on rye.
![]() 01/02/2020 at 18:10 |

Probably an entire oreo cheesecake
Chocolate chocolate chocolate would be a very close second.

Yes, as I recall is was near the circle in the main part of downtown. I did get a chance to walk the canal maybe a decade ago, all the way from the zoo to where it ended (at the time) by the USS Indianapolis monument. That, and the nature trail they added over by the Art Museum really spruced up the joint. lol My second fav place to eat there is Union Jack Pub in Broad Ripple. Damn fine pizza!
![]() 01/03/2020 at 15:56 |

That used to be or is next to what used to be the Cafe Espresso when I was in high school. All us bohemian wannabes and/or the guys who wanted to bang one hung out there on weekends. Broadripple was our hang out.

Oh yeah, I recall Broad Ripple being the artist/hippie district! I think we bought some hair dye at the little goth shop there too. Seems like a nice place to grow up.
